Dr. Mehvish Riaz, Director, China Study Centre, UET, Lahore was invited as a national keynote speaker to deliver a speech at the “International Conference on CPEC (China Pakistan Economic Corridor), Sustainable Tourism Development for Women Empowerment in Pakistan” organized by China Study Centre, Karakoram International University on September 14 and15, 2023. She delivered a speech titled, “Representation of Chinese and Pakistani Women in Art: Understanding the Issues Concerning Tourism”. She highlighted the need for positive visual representations of women in the context of tourism, ensuring women’s autonomy, freedom and safety in public spaces, and taking sustainable measures to create equitable tourism opportunities for women. She explored the marvellous beauty of Skardu, Hunza and Gilgit, and appreciated that women were actively involved in the tourism industry of Gilgit-Baltistan.
