Dr. Mehvish Riaz, Director, China Study Centre, UET, Lahore, organized a focus group discussion titled, ‘Pakistan China Emerging Culturescape’ on October 25, 2023. Venerable Prof. Dr. Habib ur Rehman, Vice Chancellor, UET Lahore, graced the event as the chief guest. The deans of faculties, Prof. Dr. Waqar Mehmood, Director, KICS, Dr. Muhammad Nasir Malik, Director, IB&M, UET faculty members who studied at Chinese universities, Chinese instructors, and students participated in the discussion moderated by Dr. Mehvish Riaz. Mr. Muhammad Asif, Registrar, Mr. Imran Babar, Treasurer, Mr. Zargham Nusrat, Controller Exams, Mr. Abdul Hameed, Assistant Registrar (Academics), and Mr. Affan Nawaz, Secretary to the Vice Chancellor also graced the occasion with their gentle presence. Multiple aspects of cultural convergence and divergence with reference to religion, traditions, food choices, and their impact on relationship building among Pakistani and Chinese people were discussed. It was emphasized that cultural evolution is inevitable, and it is everyone’s prime responsibility to develop intercultural harmony and respect cultural norms unconditionally.
